Wednesday at Camp

Image
Not many pictures today, Paul is taking pictures of girls at horseback. Will post late tonight or tomorrow. Rain this morning but really light. Sunny now. A bit warm but good breeze blowing. A Life flight helicopter is coming for the kids to see in a bit. Hope I can get a look at it too. Most of the girls are off-site to ride the horses and learn about horse care. A few did the Nantahala yesterday. They got on a bus with engine trouble. 8 mph up hill.  Hope they got that fixed. We are going to work on a service project later and the OA has an ice cream social afterwards. Yum!!  Girls seem to being good spirits and attending their classes. We are all walking a lot each day. I am logging about 10 miles.  Girls working on Honor patol so they need to do some labor clearing ditches. Seems to me this has been the start of a great tradition. Lots of folks comment on the girls' actions and participation.  I hope the all continues. Tomorrow we clean one of the sho...

Few quick shots from Sun and Monday

Monday/Tuesday at camp Yesterday we did merit badge work then this a quiet evening without major activities scheduled. The girls have met and spent time with some of the Florida troops. Several went to the waterfront and swam and checked out kayaks. Everyone has had a shower or two so far. No injuries or illnesses.  They have figured out how to navigate the camp pretty well. They received an excellent campsite inspection score and most slept through last night's rain shower. Today a few are off on the Nantahala river in rafts. I have been geocaching to help the girls earn Honor troop. Melinda, Matt and Cameron are in training classes today also.  We have successfully constructed our gateway and organized a cracker barrel with the other girls in our site. All in all I think they are enjoying their merit badge classes. I saw some nice leatherwork from Nikolia and Madeline. Several girls have done pottery and art. Tonight we have a theater under the stars and spoof merit ba...

Day 1. Sunday

Image
Ok folks. We arrived, we checked in and we went through everything at orientation quickly. Girls are happily settled in Site 8. Met other girl troops. Pretty smooth Sunday. Made it to assembly on time but were at end of line for dinner.  Lots of waiting at camp but the girls don't seem to mind. All in high spirits. Happy to be here, eager to show off their scout skills. Sat front row center for campfire. Seemed to really get into it. Shifted some girls schedules to satisfy requests, everyone got the changes they wanted. Girls are off at their first merit badge now. History in the making.  30 girls here this week. Only 3 week one and 14 week two. Nice girls in the Florida troops we share with. Breakfast went great. We went in 3rd troop. French toast and sausage. As much as you want, self serve style. That's new last year and seemed to work well. Even let Zoe and Sarah have coffee. Posting a couple shots. Will have more tomorrow when Paul uploads. ...
